Since 1988, antique auctions have formed the very core of Capitolium Art’s identity. Over the years, this department has grown considerably, organising around nine auctions annually – held in person, online or virtually. These events present more than 2,500 lots to a wide audience of enthusiasts and collectors, including antiques, old master paintings, and unique sculptures.
The artworks offered represent high artistic merit and reflect major historical art movements from Italy and abroad. Furniture, sculptures, antique silverware and ceramics – mostly sourced from private collections – consistently achieve strong results, both in terms of lots sold and overall sales value, thanks to the expertise and experience of our specialists. Capitolium Art’s foremost mission is to offer even the most discerning collectors original pieces of secure provenance and indisputable value.

The Department of Antique Furniture and Decorative Arts has been a cornerstone of our auction house since its founding. From its inaugural sale of classical art in 1988, this department has played a key role, specialising in the presentation of works and collections of exceptional historical and artistic value. Under the longstanding leadership of Giorgio Rusconi, the department has expanded significantly, becoming a market leader in auctions of sculpture, decorative arts and period silver.
Both online and traditional auctions of antiques and classical art are followed with keen interest by a highly specialised clientele, including international institutions and discerning private collectors. The works presented range from sculpture and period furniture to rare scientific instruments, each selected with the utmost care to ensure authenticity and quality.
The department is headed by Filippo Durante, a specialist in furniture and decorative objects, with Federica Vinci overseeing the cataloguing of each piece. The team is known for its professional and discreet approach, ensuring each work is evaluated and handled with the highest precision. Pieces sourced from both national and international collections are featured in detailed catalogues with technical entries prepared by independent experts – offering clients clear, transparent information.
The department operates on a philosophy of highly personalised service: artworks are handled with the utmost care, and clients are kept informed throughout the entire sales process, from initial consignment to the close of the auction. Our team is available for confidential valuations, either in Italy or abroad, offering bespoke consultations tailored to the specific needs of each collector.
Our specialists are always available to provide free and confidential valuations and appraisals.
