Dirk van Sliedregt was born in the Netherlands in 1920. From a young age he developed a passion for furniture design and above all for teaching. For many years he worked as a teacher at various universities, including the academies of Enschede and Amsterdam. He also held the position of director at the Kampen Academy of Fine Arts. His students include the designer Mart van Schijndel and the interior designer Evelyne Merkx, both very talented. Van Sliedregt expressed a particular attraction to the use of rattan, which he employed extensively in his furniture designs. Sliedregt's products have been published in several collections by the publisher Jonkers from Noordwolde. Although little known in France, the designer had a profound impact on post-war design in the Netherlands. Van Sliedregt's furniture stands out for its simplicity and functionality, thus fully reflecting his admiration for the designer Kaare Klint. Despite his predilection for seating, the designer also designed beautiful tables.
