Mario Radice Biography

Radice Mario (Como, 1898 - Milan, 1987) Mario Radice belonged to the group of artists, called "Como abstractionists", who presented the Italian path of abstract art to the European avant-garde. He was among the first artists to move away from the patterns of the twentieth century, to approach abstract painting in Italy. In 1932 he was one of the founders of the magazine Quadrante and in 1934 he participated in the painting exhibition at the Galleria del Milione in Milan. In 1967 he participated in the Modern Art Exhibition of Palazzo Strozzi in Florence and in 1971 he participated in the exhibition “Four Como abstract artists”, organized at the Deutsches Feuerwehr Museum in Fulda. He participated in several editions of the Venice Biennale and the Rome Quadrennial. He was the author of the "Fountain of Camerlata", a monument located at the entrance to Como, originally located in the Sempione Park in Milan. Radice participated in the most important avant-garde movements and the style of his painting is characterized by a precise geometry based on the relationship between color and plastic dynamism.
