Molteni Biography
Molteni & C is a company that operates in the furniture sector and was founded as an artisan business in 1934 in Giussano, a town that today is part of the province of Monza and Brianza. The founder of the company was Angelo Molteni, an entrepreneur originally from Brianza and future Cavaliere del Lavoro, who contributed to the promotion of the Salone Internazionale del Mobile. After the First World War, the company specialized in the production of furniture, starting from the processing of the wood trunk and following all the production phases. In 1969, the company decided to focus completely on the production of designer furniture, purchasing the Unifor and Citterio companies in the office furniture sector and, in 1979, the Dada company, specializing in the production of kitchen furniture. Over the years, Molteni & C has established itself as a leading company in the furniture production sector. After having entrusted the artistic direction to Luca Meda, who invited the architects Aldo Rossi and Afra and Tobia Scarpa to collaborate with Molteni for the design, in the 1990s the company started a collaboration with some prominent Italian and international designers, including Jean Nouvel, Foster and Partners, Patricia Urquiola, Rodolfo Dordoni and Hannes Wettstein. In 1994, Molteni & C received the prestigious Compasso d'Oro award for lifetime achievement promoted by the Association for Industrial Design (ADI).
