Silvio Loffredo Biography

(Paris, 1920). Immediately after the war he returned to Paris and finally found home in Florence, the city where he chose to remain for his entire life, becoming one of the reference figures of the artistic panorama, friend of Ottone Rosai and Ardengo Soffici, promoter of a continuous exchange of experiences between Italy and France. In the 1960s he went to Switzerland and came into contact with Oskar Kokoschka, who from that moment would become his teacher and his cultural reference and who would strongly influence his stylistic research. He participated with a personal exhibition at the XXXII International Art Exhibition in Venice and at numerous editions of the Rome Quadrennial. He held the Chair of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence from 1973 to 1990. His painting, of a figurative nature, is characterized by an ironic, free, very recognisable, clearly post-expressionist style. Recurring themes are cats, portraits, baptisteries, images of life in the city, bestiaries. His works are preserved in the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome.
