Laura De Santillana Biography

Laura Diaz de Santillana (aka simply Laura de Santillana) was born in Venice in 1955. She studied in New York where she also worked in the Vignelli studio. From 1975 to 1985 he worked for Venini, the family company, designing objects and lamps now collected all over the world. From 1989 to 1993 she was the artistic director of EOS. In 1993 he decided to leave the world of design to dedicate himself exclusively to art. His first exhibition was held in Seattle. Since then they have dedicated exhibitions to her all over the world: from Paris and New York in 1999, to the Venice Biennale in 2009 and 2014 together with her brother Alessandro Diaz de Santillana. He created his works between Venice, the USA and the Czech Republic. His works have been exhibited in prestigious public collections and museums – from the Victoria and Albert Museum to the Metropolitan Museum of Arts, to the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris – as well as in numerous prestigious collections private. In 2015 the meeting with Sabino Maria Frassà took place and the collaboration with Cramum began: thus numerous collective and personal exhibitions were born: “I Fedeli” in 2016 at the Francesco Messina Museum in Milan, a two-person show “Soffi” with Franco Mazzucchelli in Venice in 2019 and finally a large solo exhibition in Milan at Gaggenau Hub also in 2019. The last exhibition - posthumous, but strongly desired by the artist - is the participation in the Narcisi Fragili exhibition at Superstudio with the unpublished SCARS works. He passed away prematurely on October 21, 2019.
