Felice Casorati (Novara, 1883 - Turin, 1963). He began painting in 1902 and in 1907 he participated in the Venice Biennale, with an elegant portrait of his sister. Ten years later he moved to Turin, where he actively participated in the artistic life of the city. His early works were influenced by the art of the Secession, by Klimt's decorativism, but also by Cèzanne's constructivism. Subsequently he turned towards the style of the artists of Cà Pesaro, a more symbolic style. In the 1920s, he absorbed the lesson of Metaphysical Painting and recovered the style of fifteenth-century perspective and the atmospheres of Piero della Francesca. The themes that constantly recur in Casorati's work are the human and female figure and still life, created through reasoned and cerebral painting. Casorati's women are severe and composed, hieratic and melancholic, immersed in an atmosphere of absolute immobility.
