Among the most important exponents of the Neue Wilden, born in the 1980s, Bömmels is self-taught, his research is characterized by the use of acrylic on large format linen canvases which he treats with pastels and wax chalks; often introduces organic materials, such as strands of hair.
Despite having studied sociology, politics and education at the University of Cologne from 1970 to 1976, he dedicated himself to art. Pieter Bommels Biography

Peter Bömmels was born in 1950 in Frauenberg, Germany.
Among the most important exponents of the Neue Wilden, born in the 1980s, Bömmels is self-taught, his research is characterized by the use of acrylic on large format linen canvases which he treats with pastels and wax chalks; often introduces organic materials, such as strands of hair.
Despite having studied sociology, politics and education at the University of Cologne from 1970 to 1976, he dedicated himself to art. In fact, during this period he founded the group "Mülheim Mülheimer Freiheit", together with other artists such as Hans Peter Adamski, Walter Dahn, Jiří Georg Dokoupil, Gerard Kever and Gerhard Naschberger. In 1980 he founded the music magazine "Spex" and in 1983 he was awarded of encouragement, fine arts category, of the Land of North Rhine-Westphalia. He taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg from 1986 to 1987, in Berlin from 1990 to 1992, at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 1996, and from 2004 to 2018 at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts (HfBK Dresden). In 1993, he received the Fred Thieler Prize for painting.
Today he lives and works in Berlin.
